  • Improved on day two. Still has most of the funkiness and fruit hanging around, but the tartness has faded. It's still there, but it's more of a background element now, so it's not distracting. The flavors are a bit more focused and better integrated today as well. I'd suggest opening this wine morning of or even day before to give it some time to breathe. Putting it in the decanter and letting it sit for an hour was not a successful strategy.

  • Lots of Oregon funk on the nose, which gives way to candied cherry, blackberry, and spice aromas. A bit tart and sloppy on the palate. Flavors are pie cherry, earth, and mouth drying tannins. Short finish. Perhaps (hopefully!) in a dumb phase. At this point, the nose is writing checks the rest of the wine can't cash.
