“Merlot from a Bordeaux-perspective”-Tasting in June 2014, Flight 4, Wine 1 (blind). A pirate. The wine was medium garnet in colour and offered blackberry, some bell pepper, vegetal and earthy notes, mint, spices, coffee, cocoa and ethereal notes on the sweetish nose. On sweetish and meaty palate the wine showed blackberry, chocolate and coffee notes, paired with medium-level acidity, medium-level tannin and very good length. The medium-bodied, balanced wine drank well. A nice effort; the wine stood up to the prestigious Bordeaux. Good QPR. Drink now.

Exceeded my expectations. Forget the "drinking window." This wine is not even fully mature. Quite fragrant with notes of cherries, raspberries and hay. Medium color, clear bright garnet with no signs of browning. Despite the fruit notes in the bouquet, there is little fruit on the palate. Actually somwhat austere, with tannins not yet fully integrated, yet somehow very pleasing. Quite a long finish, with a hint of licorice. I believe this wine will continue to evolve for several years. Needs at least two or three hours of breathing time if you drink it now.

Enjoyable and probably at its best, would not cellar much longer.
