Per back label, mostly grapes from Halcon Vineyards. Some from White Hawk in Santa Barbara. 50% new and 50% neutral oak barrel aging.
Dark burgundy violet. Some sediment on bottle side. Nose dark fruit with some wildness, a floral tinge. Palate still a bit shy, with time more of a dark fruited note, a mineral core. Benefits with air, would decant next time.

50% new and 50% neutral oak. Mostly from Halcon vineyard.
Opaque violet. Nose initially a vanilla fruity note. Dark fruit. Palate red fruits, stony, some black fruits with time. Good structure to go with the fruit, would decant next time or have with a steak

Heavy on the savory, pepper-leather-olive; light on any sweetness of fruit. This is a pleasant, if not ho-hum middling offering ... with little going in the excitement arena. At the community tarriff of 45 bones - I could find many Wa. syrahs to blow this out of the water. [Cali upcharge, check.] Luckily I randomly scored it for sub-30 on auction.

Felt like doing something a little different today. From the label, most of the grapes here came from the Halcon Vineyard, and on the nose I'm definitely getting that pepper accent I would expect in a Northern Rhone.
Nicely expansive on the palate, with a pepper note here as well; a big, yet balanced wine. I'm not doing it any favors by trying it without food, but despite that, I'm enjoying this.

Tasted alongside the '13 Unmasked and '12/13 Halcon Alturas. Notes from day two. Of the bunch this bottle had the most herbal/spicy notes, apparent up front on both the nose and palate. Underneath is pleasant red/black fruit, red/black licorice, a bit of pepper/olive/oak. Medium acid/tannins. Drinking well now with a bit of air but I look forward to seeing where this goes over the next several years as I anticipate everything will integrate even more.
