The wine looks purple colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like strawberry and red currant. It tastes like strawberry, red currant and cherry. The body is light/medium. The wine has bright texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has high acidity. This wine is ready to drink now.

I have been tasting evey Portuguese red wine I can ger my hands on lately. There always seems to be a combination of California style upfront fruit with "Old World" earthiness. Very glad to have had a piece of chocolate and a couple pieces of cheese since I opened this one. My first impression was that of a pretty simple wine. The food brought out what to me tastes like a whole cluster fermented wine where only a small amount of the skins are broken, mostly by the weight of the clusters on top of each other. With that in mind, there is pureness of the blueberry and mulberry fruit that tastes like a combination of Petit Sirah and Zinfandel. With air and swirling I get a blueberry pie crust taste that is commendable. Not tannic. Little or no oak. Vanilla, butter and stems on the finish.

Solid cheap wine from a good house. Smooth, an appropriate alcohol level (you want $9 wine to be fresh not pruney I would think!), and just enough Douro character. I don't know that it would be fair to expect more at this price. It's a good option.
