I come to this wine with a certain level of prejudice; I had a case of the 2003 a couple of years back and it was superb. And thus I am predisposed to find goodness in this wine.
It did not match up to the 2003; but then it is relatively so much younger. It is a little… brutal at present, perhaps not quite knitted together. Thubleau’s note below on this wine suggests it may not last beyond 2019. That’s a valid point and I can see the justification for it; but I also feel it may well overcome its present vapory burliness to mature into something as good as the 2003. After all, if Henry’s Drive can make wine that good they clearly know a lot about their art.

Nose is oak, varnish and alcohol . Fruit is pushed back by the tannin and alcohol, slightly acid, throwing a sediment. The wine needs standing in an upright position for a week before opening allowing the sediment to settle. This release is a bit better than the older release but lacks the fruit and balance of the shiraz/cabernet blend. I can't see this lasting more than 2 more years so 2019 would be the maximum. Average at best but I did find that if you decant the wine let it stand for at least a few hours a lot of that alcohol evaporates and leaves a much more pleasant wine.
24th October 2018 smells of oak and varnish, the alcohol is still in check the fruit is soft with a dash of tannin . still sound at this point

Weird oaking. Creamy but not well integrated. Big, alcoholic, not really jammy, but intense without restraint or polish. The graphite note some people have mentioned comes across to me more as a hollowness in the mid-palate. 14.5%, £15.

Smooth and rich dark fruit. Imagine a blackberry, blueberry, and dark cherry lollipop, that's what this tastes like. Sweet tannins and soft acidity. Drink now for the lush factor.
