Our Philly Wine Group's Spanish/Portuguese Dinner (Mixto Restaurante, Phila., PA USA): Brought to our Philly Wine Group’s Spanish/Portuguese dinner at Mixto Restaurante. Wonderful way to end the evening. This is a producer I have not had the pleasure of tasting before. It was sheer sweet, silken treasure with all the right high notes hit...chocolate, kirsch, boysenberry/black raspberry/Chambord, cedar, tobacco and oh so long on the finish. It was a pleasure to have discovered it.

Cork srained through, but intact. Lots of sediment. Deep red color with a hot nose of red and blue fruit. Flavors of cocolate covered cherries fill the mouth with a rich sweetness. Big wine, still youthful. Nicely integrated and smooth but chewy finish.

I wanted to write a more detailed tasting note for this one, but unfortunately, I forgot to at the time, so bear with me, I'm going on memory. This particular bottle had a good cork and lots of sediment. The wine had matured nicely with lots of pruny, fading sweetness. There was not as much complexity as I would have expected and the finish was long, but not particularly memorable with an old wood overtone. Good, but not great.

A business dinner (Restaurant De Karpendonkse Hoeve *, Eindhoven, Netherlands): Deep saturated colour; deep nose with ripe figgy fruit, powerful and concentrated, well-structured. Impressive. Now - 2010.
