Ha.....what are the chances of having this wine and vintage 3yrs later in Phuket? At the back end of the window but still going ok. Soft, generic red fruits, acid hints. Nothing jumps out. Thining in the back palate.

NobleRottersSydney - South America (360 Bar & Dining, Sydney): {diam, 13.5%, A$19} (Graeme) An aromatic mix of pinotage, zinfandel and cabernet franc, this odd grape presents a spicy facade, behind which is a slightly rustic flavoured red, but with a well-polished texture and structure. It is medium-bodied, with plummy ripe red fruits tinged with tobacco and smoke, although not heavy-handed with oak. Medium acid and length of finish; a straightforward and decent wine which should reward some short-term cellar time.

Failed to launch for mine. Chalky tannin and cool berry fruits are quite nice but I found it hard to 'get into the wine'. Some aniseed and bitterness to finish. Solid enough, particularly so at the price, but not a wine I will remember.

This is a soft, buttery, approachable Bonarda that admirably shows the varietal's broad, easy appeal. While initially it seems uninteresting and unstructured beyond the norm, the appeal deepens, the nose showing blackberry, blueberry, creamy butter, spicy white pepper, and candle wax, with some GSM-style meaty-funky notes emerging later. Dark fruit and tangy cherry emerge on the palate as well, with impressive length. Indeed, this turns out to be rather less lush and plush than other Bonardas, which is disappointing on the one hand, given initial expectations, but also indicative of greater complexity on the other, making it far more interesting than the initial assessment suggests.
