Tasted at a visit to Stanglwirt in Kitzbühl, Austria. The first nose here was a massive surprise! A beautifully aged aroma profile rivalling what you’d expect from a mature right bank Bordeaux: Intense with fine earthy base with aging notes of mushrooms, floral high notes, ripe fruit of red cherry and plum, and mineral notes of schist. The palate was fresh and more acidity driven, but also a bit austere. If it wasn’t for a more lukewarm palate this would have been excellent. Drank over 2 days with consistent results.

An elegant and mineral style, juicy and fresh, perfectly ripe fruit with lots of cherries and some blackberries. No heat or overripe flavors, Tannins have softened considerably. Its not particularly flavorful, lacks a bit of "sweetness" and this bottle still seems a bit restrained. Better with food than solo. - 90 points

It took a few years, but this has finally reached the optimal drinking window. A very elegant and mineral style, juicy and fresh, perfectly ripe fruit with cherries and blackberries. Tannins have softened considerably over the past years. Skillful winemaking. No signs of age, but ready for drinking. - 91 points

Best bottle so far, though we have had some bottle variation. The wine is finally becoming more balanced and more approachable. Tannins are much softer now. Fine black cherry fruit with lots of classy Blaufränkisch spices. Very juicy wine with a bright acidity. A wine of unobstrusive elegance and a style that is quite in contrast to the more concentrated and extracted red wines (from Austria). This wine needs food. No signs of age yet. Direkt aus der Flasche. Nase mit dunklen, roten Früchten, am Gaumen sehr würzig, Tannine gut integriert. Etwas jung, aggressiv - braucht vermutlich mehr Luft.
