  • 100% Garnacha Borruda aka. Garnatxa Peluda aka. Hairy Grenache from 80 yo. vineyards. Macerated with the skins for 16 days, aged for 4 months in oak casks.

Lightly translucent dark cherry color with a purple plum hue. The nose is slightly underwhelming, but quite attractive and nuances with aromas of crunchy, brambly berries, some perfumed floral notes and leafy vegetal notes, giving the wine very Cabernet Franc-esque air. The alcohol (14,5%) shows a little. The wine has quite serious and structured, medium-bodied palate with very nice, chewy texture. Dry, rather concentrated flavors of roasted spices, ripe dark-toned fruit, some leafy vegetal notes and hints of black raspberry and sweeter chocolate. The acidity is high and tannins moderately pronounced with good, firm grip. The alcohol gives the wine a little bit of heat. The moderately long finish is grippy and spicy with dry flavors of more acid-driven dark berries, smoke, some oak chocolate and a hint of leafy complexity with good tannic grip.

Really wonderful, positively rough and serious Garnacha that shows wonderful structure, balance and concentration, but isn't too ripe, sweet or lacking in acidity or tannins. I normally enjoy Garnacha Peluda over regular Garnacha (Negre / Tinta) and this proved no exception. Enjoyable on its own for a duration of one glass, but after that it really needs to be paired with something. Has potential to develop over a few years, but does not necessarily require further aging. I love it!
