  • A very mellow wine now showing its age, it is dominated (as in other regions of France in this vintage) by bracing acidity. Still has some rich aged fruit within but much of the "guts" of the wine has precipitated out via the profuse sediment drop. A nice quaff with beef nonetheless.

  • Here is an estate to follow for lovers of traditionally made Chateauneuf du Pape. While 1996 was probably what vintage whores would call a 'lesser' year in Chateauneuf, this wine is drinking beautifully now. The color is medium ruby red. Lavender, garrigue, leather, spices and refined cherry fruit on the nose and palate. The wine has a lightness to it which is refreshing - this is not cumbersome to drink. Susanne loves this wine. In a way this reminds my of a lighter styled Bonneau. Probably drinking at peak now and 5 more years out. Excellent wine.
