  • For the annual spring 1st reisling ritual, this offering sounded tempting as an inspection of how the fabled 2001 vintage is holding up. If this is any indication, all is looking good for continued aging of these stellar whites. Chilled opening reveals precise ions of candied pineapple and grapefruit, with a maple syrup element and mineral flecks. This Spat has a nice medium body, with mouth coating sweetness up front melting to crisp sno-cone like acidity on the finish. The finish is slightly clipped compared to some monumental '01s, but there is plenty here to savor - tart green apple grabs first, followed by a complex mid-palate of apple, mango/guava, citrus & honey, wet flint rock, cold morning dew, melted alpine snow. Mellows out as it warms, adding classic petrol aromatics missing upon open, and a creamed grape foam smoothness.

  • These two bottles were opened for dinner at a restaurant, so no formal note. Beautiful tropical notes and lipsmacking acidity. Even at the restaurant markup of 2x retail, it was a decent value.

  • This was opened at a CWM offline on Saturday. This is a very good producer and of course the vineyard is top notch. The wine showed a little mustiness on the nose at first but that blew off in the glass. Nice minerality with notes of apple and cider. Medium length finish. Could probably use another year or 2 to show its best. 90 points.
