This wine showed still quite vivid and with a nice fruit core. But despite the vivacity and complexity, it didn’t speak to me that much. The precision was only mediocre, the tertiary aromas too faint and the overall balance not where I would have wished it to be. Others in our group liked it a bit more than I did. Still, very solid wine here.
TN: Medium+ intense nose with nuances of tobacco, old leather, some floral aromas, some caramel, red berries come through. Some smoky notes. Fairly complex. On the palate this is still quite concentrated with fine melted tannins, a high acidity which is not perfectly integrated. Very creamy. Lots of red berries, still going strong at almost 60, some faint floral notes, caramel and minty notes, some minerality and smoke.
Decanting: Needed time in the bottle to breath. Got better by the minute.

2016 La Festa Del Barolo. Brought to the dinner by KENV. I was one of the lucky ones to get to fast it. The wine was simply magnificent. The fruit was still very much intact on a beautifully round and soft palate. A memorable drinking experience. My wine of the night.

2016 Festa del Barolo Gala Dinner 2.1 literTroglia bottling.
Round and full bodied. Still Going strong, broader stroked wine after the bartolo mascarellos, with balsam and tar with darker Serralunga fruit. Tar and darker fruited, with more power and youthfulness than the more graceful western Barolo wines. Overall very impressive, but it lacked a little tension for me at least. Others at the table more knowledgeable than I liked it more. Wonderful nonetheless. Thanks KV. 93

Gala Dinner at Antonio Galloni's La Festa del Barolo (Four Seasons Restaurant, NYC): [A 2.1 liter Troglia bottle. Double decanted at noon by Jamie at Chambers Street.] Stunning spiced red fruit nose. Showing brilliantly. Complex, youthful (for a 1966). Great length. So much that one looks for in fully mature nebbiolo. WOTN so far. Kelly said it was his WOTN.
