Wine Australia master class. Flight 1 – History, wine 3 (non-blind): From old vines. The wine was medium ruby in colour and offered sweet red fruit, strawberry, spices and roasted notes on the nose and palate, with fresh, medium-level acidity, smooth, medium-level tannin, moderate heat from the alcohol and very good length. The coconutty oak was well-integrated. A very good Grenache.

Monthly Tasting Group EEE #055: Around Adelaide (@ PV): Beautiful bouquet with red and dark forest fruits, some coffee, tobacco and pleasant barnyard. On the palate dark and red berries, plums, chocolate, oak, vanilla, eucalyptus and some rustic flavors. Fresh acidity and round tannin which still has a good bite. Already a pleasure and no problem waiting until the early 2020’s.

Unmistakably Australian. Loads of bright red fruit up front, floral notes to follow. A decent amount of heat from the alcohol. Should be really nice in 2-5 years.

Check-up on Australia with Tim Wildman, MW (Adelaide/Barossa): Medium purple Expressive nose with strong fruit aromas around cherry and cassis. Medium bodied, a bit light on the palate compared to the intensity of the nose. Fresh, very good food wine.
