Dark ruby color. Smells of tart red plums and currants, some blackberry jam, violets and mocha and toasted oak. Juicy and fresh, good tannic grip but a bit harsh around the edges. Tart and punchy black and red currant fruit mixed with coffee, cedar and anise. Some vanilla and oak, a bit too much. Perhaps this needs some time, but I was hoping for a bit more personality. Actually a lot better on day two, but there are better South African Merlots for $20.

Tuesday Night $20-$35 Double Blind (Bin 75): Dark core with reddish purple rim, some clarity; brown sugar, sweet candy, red and purple fruit, sweet and tart, fresh fruit as well as a compote level of concentration, slight green pepper; almost medicinal on the palate, larger scaled but tannins are not harsh, higher alcohol; very young; good.
