Drinkable but uninspiring. Too old? Bad bottle? The last one (purchased together, stored alongside) was undrinkable, while this one is fine. But it lacks the great old chenin stuff. Drank alongside the 06 which was stronger and fruitier and more golden and basically just better across the board. The alcohol is more harmoniously integrated in the 2001 however. It's a subtle and harmonious wine, but I was looking for more heft.

Deep golden colour, the nose reveals beeswax, wet dog, chalk, mineral and almond. Bracing acid on entry, this medium to full-bodied wine has wonderful honey, wet dog and earth flavours to counterbalance the crescendo of acidity. Very typical Savennieres, there is some breadth, a touch of apple with that honey and finished medium in length, leaving you with that bracing acidic finish. Not a tremendous amount of depth; I expected slightly more given the entry and nose, but still pretty good.

Burned out. Basically unpleasant, hot tasting.

Some minerality, but mostly a soft mouth feel. Remains tasty while warming in the mouth. Minimal oak.

Nice wine, lots of character. Minerally and tart but counterbalanced by bright fruit and a rich golden color.
