  • Virtual Tasting with Friends #6 (Google Meeting): Medium ruby, with significant browning and fading edges. A nose of burnt rubber and peat, as well as some blackberry. Somewhat low tannins, and some berry ripeness and juiciness, as well as a bit of rubber and tar, and fern greens. Short finish. Interesting to see how a Pinotage ages

  • Dark fruits, tangy red fruits - nice blend of blackberry and blueberry and cranberry. Sweet rotten vegetable and rubber stink (nice!), humic earth, spice. Good acidity, medium body, fairly fine tannins in suspension with some astringency. Goes surprisingly well with cherry tomatoes! Try with a tomato rich sauce.

  • I liked this. Solid at $18. I wouldn't pay much more for it though.

  • Appearance: Clear wine with a deep ruby colour.

Nose: Clean nose with a medium+ intensity. This wine is developing.

A mixed bag on the nose - fresh fruit is prominent, blackberries and a red berry mixture over the expected vanilla and baking spices. There is a slightly chemical smell to the wine, almost like nail-polish remover. Some barnyard and capsicum is ghosting underneath all this.

    Palate:
    Dry
    High acidity
    Medium alcohol
    Medium tannins
    Medium+ intensity
    Medium+ body
    Medium finish

Probably the most acidic red I've tasted so far - woosh! Very tangy and can be a bit off-putting at the start, although this leads to firm tannins and a clean, mixed berry profile. Far better with food to balance the acidity a little.

Good quality Pinotage from South Africa. Can be drank now but I believe another 1-3 years in the bottle will help soften the wine and add some complexity. At 22 euros a bottle, poor QPR in Spain.

  • Youthful nose with medium intense aromas of roasted oak, coffee, burned wood and a little smoke then there is mainly a lot of different dark berries, blackberries, morello cherries, and a little ashes.

Dry with a medium+ acidity, round but with some light tannins. Just enough to give it a good structure. Medium bodied, medium intensity and a decent, medium+ finish.

Felt somewhat simple at first, but it grew on me and even at 14% abv this felt rather light and fresh. A serious Pinotage and gratifyingly priced at 150SEK.
