It has been almost 5 and 1/2 years since I have sat down with this wine. The last experience seemed to be more purple fruited with the feeling of some liquor dumped into the wine bin! Maybe a little bit disjointed because of its youth. This experience was very different. Roasted black fruit front, full bodied, fig, dates, a little bit brambly in the middle. Finishes with a good touch of acidity and black pepper, still with a touch of sweetness at the finish. A very interesting blend that has 4% Viognier in addition to the GSM (20/24/12) with Petite Sirah (27) and counoise (13). There is absolutely no sign of decline with this Mt Veeder sourced wine. Definitely a wine that is off the beaten path. But very delicious and went well with spicy Mexican food which I have noticed GSMs have a tendency to do.

Medium to deep ruby red with a purplish hue. Lovely and integrated nose with notes of bramble berries, especially black and blue berries, purple flowers, provenance herbs and a touch smoked. Smooth tannins (6/10) and medium bodied. Lush raspberries with some bark and sweet tobacco on the palate followed up by some savory herbs. Tannins come through on the finish with a medium plus length. Drink till 2025.

A beautifully crafted bottle. This wine is an eclectic blend of 27 Petite Sirah, 24 Syrah, 20 Grenache, 15 Counoise, 12 Mourvedre, and 4 Viognier. This wine had a very deep nose of red cherry, chocolate, dark "purple" fruits, and a smoky leathery note. The entry of this wine was quite acidic at first, but died down after about an hour. After settling, this one favored more of the black cherry and smoke on the front. The middle is where this one was showing mocha, bramble, and almost "purple" fruits. The finish is long, kind of has a sweetness to it (Viognier?). Finished rather elegant for a wine that is such an eclectic mixture. Had strong fruit presence even 3 hours later. I can see that this one is a start-by 2017 because it may seem a little disjointed. But the wine consistently delivered tonight. I feel that this wine is just getting started.

Opened on a Saturday and followed for 3 evenings. Found this on a recent visit to ACME in St Helena. 27% Petite Sirah, 24% Syrah, 20% Grenache, 13% Counoise, 12% Mourvèdre and 4% Viognier from Mt Veeder. Sounded like an interesting mix. Upon opening the Viognier was evident on the nose but it was all floral. Big and structured like another Mt Veeder wine I really enjoy L-M Syrah. Very aggressive swirling didn't do much to help this along so I put the cork back in the bottle after a couple pours and revisited the next night. On day two this was still wound up but the PS was showing some menthol and the Mourvèdre was starting to blossom. On day 3 the palate softened up a bit and exhibited some iron, pepper and roasted meat. Lots of pepper on the finish along with chewy tannins. I would suggest a double decant and then 24hr slow-ox if you want to try it now, otherwise let it sit for 5 years.
