Community Tasting Notes (2)

  • Vosne Romanee Premier Cru Blind (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): Mine, acquired fairly recently from a reliable source who probably owned it since release; clearly more age than the '99 we just had, people came to play, slightly cloudy but more resolved dull crimson with orange brick rim, upright for many days prior which helped; lots of malt on the nose, mushroom, hay, dried grains, wilted roses, dried cherries, leaner and more age evident on the palate as well, tart fruit and a little shorter, slight candied fruit and a sour cranberry finish revealed with air- did we consume this too fast? was it still opening up?; solid but past peak, didn't have really high expectations and this wasn't technically 1er Cru so I guess I'll open up that backup.

  • Sadly more like "Les Champs Perdu". Cork split on opening. Tasted before and after decanting. Unfortunately well past-it. Nose suggest something really pleasing but there is simply no fruit or tannic structure left leaving just a limp metallic taste. This bottle was not stored well, others may do better.
