Deep and rich nose with sherry scents and acacia. The palate is intense, a lot of things going on and a good grip, autumn leaves, slightly smokey peach and mango, hazelnut, baked apples, chamomile, acacia, up to a point oxidative with briny flauvors. Clear sherry character and aldehyde, probably thanks to the flor fermentation. Medium minus acidity but surprisingly fresh. Long and convincing aftertaste with nuts and waxy notes. A serious Fiano from the home base of the grape. Kudos to Raffaele Pagano and his team for a very special wine.

The grapes are sourced from a pre-phylloxeric "Lapio" Cru, planted more than a century ago on volcanic soil. Fermented for 60 days sous voile, i.e. under a veil of yeast. Aged in 500-liter chestnut casks. 13,5% alcohol.
Intense, slightly hazy neon greenish-yellow color of Mountain Dew. The nose is very distinctive, expressive and complex with aromas of slivered almonds and chopped nuts, some grassy greenness, a little bit of wild waxy tones and a hint of greengage. The wine is very intense, distinctive and juicy on the palate with complex flavors of slivered almonds, crisp stony minerality, some tangy aldehydic saline character, a little bit of waxy funk, light smoky tones, a hint of greengage and a touch of green apple. The wine is only medium-to-moderately high in acidity, yet it feels very fresh and balanced at the same time. The finish is lengthy, very complex and and quite leesy with persistent flavors of chalky minerality, smoke, herbal greenness, some funky waxy tones, a little bit of aldehydic saline tang, light resinous tones, a hint of greengage and a touch of apple peel bitterness.
A very unique, complex and distinctive Fiano with a lot of depth and heft, yet the wine feels surprisingly light and delicate on its feet. Tons of complexity here and I can imagine the wine will only continue to develop over the years. A very unique white by any accounts - I can imagine a basic consumer might find this wine too weird or even faulty, but I was thrilled. Pricey at 89,30€, but I'm almost willing to admit that the wine delivers for the price.
