Celebrating International Grenache Day with this. Excellent wine. Stacks up well against the Head Wines Old Vine Grenache from the same vintage . Still improving. One left!

This is seriously good. Deeply pitched, tightly coiled, exotic but restrained. It is fresh and spicy with some blood plum notes. There are some red berry and floral things once you give the wine some time in the glass. It is linear with great focus and length of flavor is superb.

Check-up on Australia with Tim Wildman, MW (Adelaide/Barossa): This is from the oldest Grenache vineyard in the world, yes, the world (no phyloxera in South Australia), planted in 1850. Medium garnet, not very thick. Delicate nose of sweet spices, red fruit, cinnamon and gingerbread. Medium-light bodied with a fruity touch but present tannins at the same time. This is made on sandy soils like Chateau Rayas. Grenache on sand is often named as warm climate Pinot. Drinking this wine makes you understand that phrase. 93+
