Popped and poured in celebration of my buddies very positive MRI. In the glass, the 2003 Tarlant “La Matinale” shows a burnished gold color with a moderate moose. On the nose, initially there is a bit of a butter scotch thing…but there’s also a good amount of fruit and what’s there has a surprising freshness to it. Apples, golden, raspberries, brioche and citrus fruits with white peaches well. On the palate, the fruit set was confirmed. The fruit was even more fresh than the nose would have suggested, and there remained quite a bit of effervescence that was really lovely. I suspected that this would continue to liven up over time and sure enough, it did. No doubt, the tremendous acid has given this the lift necessary. Fantastic showing from such an extreme vintage. Disgorged 10/2016 (12 years on lees 😵💫); zero dosage.

Beautiful champagne. Surprisingly fresh acidity for the super warm vintage. Refined, fantastic tertiary aromas, brioche to balance fruity flavours like pineapple. Nice length.

After the disappointing premox cuvee Louis this was a real stunner. Nice pineapple yellow color and immediately an intense aged but creamy pleasant bouquet.
Drank over two days and not a big change in overall characteristics maybe a bit more complexity on the second day.
Bouquet is a lot of creamy vanilla mixed with autolytics and juicy ripe apple. This is really the definition of a thick creamy bouquet.
Taste is ultra ripe yet smooth and balanced apple. This is similar to some 2006 vintages but Tarlant manages to capture some impressive fresh and acidity thanks to blocked malo. With some time the acidity becomes even more prominent yet stays beautifully integrated with the ripe fruit.
Its also fantastic how sweet and yet fresh this is. Bubbles are excellently small and subtly add to the mouthfeel and body.
With a big pinot noir glass there are also aspects of minerality and periodically hints of woody elements and smoke or roast aromas.
Well done... When I opened the bottle I thought its perfect to drink now but at the end I would say this will continue to live for at least 5-10 more years.

Good. Young. A little brassy- which is probably the vintage, age, and 12 yrs on lees, but the zero dosage and bracing acidity give it some tension that could still resolve a bit.
