Intense, black fruit, pepper, cedar. A slight sweetness, usual for Syrah. Tannins moderate and lasting aftertaste. Balanced and (too?) smooth. Probably at peak, and will stay there for 5+ years.

Nose: medium (+) or intense, youthful nose of dark berries with coffee and a perceptible freshness. The greenish touch ( reminding of grass, earth and ivy) reminds me of Carmenère from Chile (blind tasted).
Palate: high alcohol, medium tannins and high acidity (!). Intense in flavour expression with a variety of aromas: blackberries, dark plums and a steady coffee aroma mingled with cedar and a greenish fading ivy-pepper blend. Long lasting in the finish and a really great drinking experience - a huge pleasure and a new, probably best discovery of the Syrah grape so far.

My last bottles some five years ago was a revelation. This bottle, perfectly stored, was somewhat flabby and unstructured, lacking the exuberant power of the prior one. I am deep in this vintage and hope tonight’s was the anomaly...

Our Turn to Say Thanks to Some Generous Friends (Los Olivos, CA): Decanted for a mere 2 hours but showed extremely well. Deep, dark, intense and complex, never overbearing despite how robust a wine it is. Notes of blue and black fruit, leather, smoked meat and a slight florality. Should merit another point or two in coming years, but why wait?!
