Much better on day 2 than day 1 - despite air and decanting. This really needs (a lot of) time. A rare and fascinating wine, but the white is better I believe.
From a six bottle lot from Hugh Johnson’s Saling Hall cellar sold at Sworder’s in 2013. Marvellous stuff, classic style but not rustic at all, rich black fruit and a balsamic note, cedary and creamy, smoky but fresh, rich and rounded but restrained, with ripe tannins and lovely harmony and balance. Drinking beautifully at 18 years of age, time in hand.

Starts off like an old comfy chair with pleasant aged wine notes - leather, faded cherries, a little Armagnac. Then you realize it isn't so comfy after all - some rough edges and a hollow core. Not overly aged nor oxidized, but feels tired. Had a pleasant time for a bit, but nothing I'd revisit.

wine mature and well evolved. Ruby red with subtle Brown notes. powerful tannins, acidity. earthy aromas, prunes and toasted almonds. ready to drink. great wine.

Garnet with amber rim. Nice nose of leather, roses, coffee. Palate is still strong with plenty of tannins. Quite long.
