  • Good, still youngish. Did not have the grand cru qualities that I would like, and have seen from the Camus Latricieres. This might improve some with bottle age, but I don't think that it has a ton of upside. Solid fruit, a little chalky.

  • Fresh and rich nose and palate. Not a surprise for so young a wine. As usual though, this producer's gran crus wines are the equivalent of others' 1ers. But with everyone else's 1ers costing around the same price - there's nothing to lose in buying these. How well these will age, only time will tell.

  • Tuesday Night Double Blind $40+ (Bin 75): Soft crimson with orange hues; red fruit, orangey, pledge; richer and deep though a slightly pallid expression of Gevrey in '09 though black pepper and rich sweet fruit didn't make sense anywhere else, thought this was lower tier with elevated GC alcohol, good fat to it; honestly the wine is probably better than I give it credit.

  • A very ripe but focused nose of black cherry, graphite, clove, cassis and smoke come through instantly, though even the aromas have a bit of fine lift to them. The palate is long with a savory midpalate of peppery black cherry fruit (almost slightly creamy), smoke that precede a bit of the burly Mazis tannic structure before the very long finish. Everything seems to be in the right place today.

  • 2002 Burgundy Tasting: This was a "bonus" wine brought by one of the participants at the tasting. For such a young Burg, this has a lot going for it already. Earthy and complex on the nose, spicey, and with a touch of anise. Rich, full mouthfeel, loads of structure, and well balanced. This a a beautiful wine that's still a bit rustic due to its youth, but still with a surprising amount of complexity. This is going to develop into a beauty in the years to come.
