Fresh spicy nose of lively nutmeg maybe coriander. Baked fruit on the palate, dark fruit leather, found a touch of tobacco, some light ashy smoke. Firm prune, not flabby, nearing savoury with a kiss of lemon. Good balance, decent concentration...a honeyed sweet finish into distant earth and coffee.
Cool stuff! Great with grilled red meats. Others note "blueberry" and "blackberry" and I would agree...but I tended to notice the more baked and tertiary characteristics of this wine. Plenty of old world character, but modern in terms of forwardness. I don't mind the way Masi does this.
