I must have forgotten this was in my cellar as I generally don’t view the baby Le Vieux Pin Syrah as needing more than a couple of years of laying down. Other than a bit of rustiness starting to creep into the otherwise medium purple colour, the extra aging has had little impact. Soft tannins coupled with medium acidity compliment the full panoply of typical Syrah flavours. In other words: this is good.

Long finish. Oak. Leather, red apple, earthy tones, hints of cherry, mushroom, barnyard flavours. Drank with a chicken tagine. Paired beautifully. Deep ruby colour. Plenty of structure and tannins are firm. Decanted for one hour.

Green olives and violets dominate light raspberry fruit in this Crozes-Hermitage style wine. We popped and poured; showed quite a bit of salinity at first and had a sour cream kind of lactic top note that I didn't expect based on experience with the wine last year; interesting evolution.
