The Croze Hermitage-like green olive and violet nose with bits of tar and white pepper the beguiled me off the bat at the winery persist two years in, but the palate still doesn't deliver what the nose suggests it should, and the tannins are hanging in tight. Still good, but a bit hollow compared to the terrific '13 recently tasted.

Nose was stronger than taste when first opened the bottle. The colour was a rusty-purple. This changed with time and decanting; it became softer and violets were dominant.

Fairly dark. Smoky black pepper, some sort of citrus and red cherry. The palate lets down the nose. Dry tannins with not quite the richness the nose promises. May put on some weight with some age. Score is for the nose and potential.

Syrah Dinner (Vancouver, BC): Obvious syrah nose with blacker fruits, floral notes and some pepper. Chewy tannins but not loads of structure here. There's some oaky notes that linger on the finish but the oak isn't noticeable anywhere else. Should be a really nice 3-5 year wine. Good. 87+
