Santa Cruz Mountain Vineyard dinner (Culture Center in NYC): A real treat to get to try the first vintage of the wine. This was before the current winemaker had joined the enterprise. Very interesting wine - it reminds me more of what I expect old Bordeaux to taste like than Pinot Noir. The nose is an old saddle bag. Lots of that oiled leather style in the beginning. Red fruit still there although a bit muted. Still well structured and nice.

No where new the quality of the other bottles I have had—no vibrant acidity, dull, maybe corked? That said, we finished the bottle. Low fill level, saturated cork.

Drank over 3 hours after a 30 min decant, it stated strong and held up over the course of the night... slightly smokey, sweet fruit, soft tannins--a totally perfect experience tonight.

My first off bottle, drinkable, leathery nose with some spice and earth, but missing that burst of bright, tart fruit to bring it in to balance.
