Nice monovarietal surprise from the oak iconoclast, Telmo Rodríguez. Alicante monastrell. Rich, darker soft berries + prunes. Meaty overtones. Generous tannins, but the 2013 tasted in 2017 is not acidic. Low yield vines. Great value to understand a well known Spanish oenologist's treatment of varietal. No oak obstruction. Concrete and stainless so grape shines through. Fruit is "dense." 2013 has aged well (tasted November 2017). Rings a Châteauneuf-du-Pape dry jam note. Easy quaff for a night of Fall grilling.
Over-decanting will diminish the wine.
Garnet colored (2017) Medium legs, body and finish No sediment of note in this bottling Blackberry, blueberry, prune, raisin and plum Meaty impression Medium acidity

Unblended Monastrell wine (Mourvèdre) with a deep purple red color and a firm nose of blueberry, sour cherry and some medicinal aromas. The palate is a bit sharp (at present), delivering spicy berry and plum fruit, but the tannins are too dominant for my liking. Quite astringent finish. A bit disappointing given the reputation of the producer.

plum, getting into raisin, still herb underbelly. jelly, aromatic and nuanced. palate shows great acid, but the fruit profile is getting bit too far along for my taste.

I really wanted to rate this wine highly but overall it was a little disappointing. Nose of blueberry and boysenberry, deep red fruit on the tongue with a touch of smoke. Nice zip and acidity, astringent in a nice way. Medium finish. However, lacks something that I can't put my finger on. Perhaps the single verital needs a dose of something else in the blend. Overall nice enough but nothing that memorable and I prefer other wines from this region.

A nice spicy full bodied red that held up well with Morocan lamb meat balls. Decanted 2 hours prior to drinking. Big wine.
