Community Tasting Notes (2) Avg Score: 93 points

  • A brilliant champagne impeccably well stored pretty much in the same spot since acquisition shortly after release. Still quite light in color with plenty of bubbles at 32 years of age, still lemony with some nuttiness, but with really impressive structure and length. The perfect frame for the 1988 Pol Roger special reserve that followed.

I've noted this before. Raters give a recently released non vintage champagne say a 91, and I am not immune, but as I rate this bottle a 95, it is in reality easily ten points or more better than any non vintage champagne ever in my experience. In another world really.

  • With MPL at Square One's wine tasting dinner in SF. Golden color. Very fine bead. Very fine, closed nose. On the palate, noticeably fuller body--excellent weight and richness. Very fine flavor. Excellent Champagne; its pedigree shows. 5-10-17-8: 90/100.
