Decant and pour. A powerful blockbuster of a cabernet franc. Surprisingly little given away on the nose. Starts monolithic but with great purity - sweet dark cherries, chocolate with a hint of mint/thyme. Smooth integrated tannins and subtle oak. Long finish, but with a narrow range of flavour, not much on the tertiary front as yet. Lacks complexity. Will keep and may open out in the long run, but could be a long wait. Empty glass sniff test bears the promise of tertiaries (hints of coffee, tobacco and leather), promising future improvement. Will leave a few years.

$60+ Blind Bordeaux Varietals Tasting (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): Garnet core with brighter rim; pencil shavings, cocoa powder, green pepper, cherry, earth, very red fruited, European styling, have trouble going Bordeaux though, a bit like a refined and restrained domestic; in a good spot.

A spectacular expression of cab franc, in a peak drinking window, but clearly structured enough to drink this well for 10 years. In 2019, I noted the 2013 vintage to be a bit young, so there’s a net 4 years of age here, beyond that, and This is perfect. Any chocoholic would happily abandon that sugar for a day or two to imbibe this beauty loaded with blackberry, chocolate cherry and dark chocolate almond bark flavors, perfectly balanced with mostly neutral oak, and black plum skin tannin. Shimmering acidity in the midpalate . A solid 60 second finish, w espresso grinds. I lucked into a perfect pairing: seared quail, finished in a clay pot for 25 min at 325, w parsnip, shiitake, and rutabaga chunks, and a Oaxacan mole sauce (from the Mexican grocery) thinned w chicken stock and diced chipotle tomatoes. Enemigo had no trouble with the heat or the richness.

May have been a little overexcited by last bottle or my points of reference have expanded and changed. Benefited from some air and still a young vibrant wine. Would like to revisit maybe in summer or 2022 with some steak.

Deep colour, no bricking. Good nose and great on palate with medium length. Ignore pro drinking dates - absolutely no hurry to drink
