  • dark, dense, ruby colored. nose with limestone and clay, along with green bell pepper, licorice, autumn spice, and cherry fruit. full bodied with medium acidity, soft mouth feel. melange of dark and sour cherries on the palate. dusty tannins on the earthy finish. drinking window is open and i’d guess 10 good years to go. a top class bourgeil.

  • Nose of cocoa powder, dark cherries, cedar and just a hint of some more herbal elements... Time in the glass reveals some more smoky elements and pipe tobacco on the nose.
The palate is really 'aerial' with some dark red fruit, crisp and well balanced acidity and just a hint of Bordeaux-like texture, though it is at the same time light as a feather. Really nice!

  • JUNGLEJUICE nails it in his note below imo. Special wine that grows and transforms with air and brings that intriguing elegance and energy this variety can perform in its best moments. The nose is really something, superb balance and a growing, lingering sweetness to the fruit during the evening. Just the right amount of resistance on the palate, firm but oh so juicy. Would love to have a few bottles in my cellar to open in 8-15 years, give or take. Highly recommended.

  • Immediately on pop, I knew this wine was going to be special. After two hours in the decanter, it improved even more and continued to do so all night. At first, it was all crunchy acid driven savory cherry and smokey black currant. With time it gained in body with the cherry notes becoming more sweet but with added secondary notes of smokey tobacco, wild mushrooms and sweet herbs. The fruit/acid/tannins balance here is really something and paired beautifully with grilled venison. This wine was much more serious than I was expecting and I wish I had more, as I would bury it in the back of the cellar for another 10 years and fully expect it to boggle brains - 93+.

  • To be honest: This wine did not show yesterday. This is 2012 vintage but will benefit from more time. Not the best vintage in The Loire but a very lovely wine. On the second day... Good nose with hints of barnyard, nice red fruit freshness and flowers. Nice palate with good acidity and some good tannins.
I kept one small glass for day three and the wine rocks! From 89 via 90 to 91
