  • This wine is excellent and underrated. I had it first in Nov 2017 on a Bandon Dunes golf trip where we all brought a bottle. I felt this wine was the top wine of the weekend, so I bought more bottles when I got home. Opening a second bottle tonight, I remain impressed. Immediately upon opening, it had a very rich nose of red fruit, spice, wood and anice - and that held up through the entire vertical. The wine is perfectly balanced and simply delicious for a $50 CdP.

  • PnP, with primary aromas and flavors of black raspberry, plum, black olive, and smoked brisket. Licorice and barnyard bubble to the surface mid-palate, and linger on the long finish. Young, yet drinking beautifully now.

  • A blend of biodynamically farmed Grenache (95%) and Mourvèdre (5%) from a vineyard located in the northernmost parts of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Macerated with the skins for 3-4 weeks. Fermented and aged only in concrete. Vinified at the Chapoutier facilities.

Luminous, deep and somewhat translucent ruby red color with a hint of youthful purple hue. The nose is somewhat funky and rustic with rich aromas of juicy dark fruit, ripe blackberries, some balsamic VA tones, a little bit of bretty leather and a hint of stable floor. The wine is wild, quite structured and surprisingly funky on the palate with full-body and rich flavors of ripe dark berries, balsamic VA, some wild funky notes, a little bit of bretty leather, light gamey tones, a hint of tart red plums and a touch of barnyard. The wine is quite impressively structured with its high acidity (especially for a Châteauneuf-du-Pape) and moderately grippy tannins. The finish is long, powerful and grippy with quite ample tannins and intense flavors of ripe, dark-toned fruits, juicy strawberries, some bretty leather, light phenolic spicy tones, a lifted hint of sweet volatile character and a touch of barnyard.

A wonderfully funky, rustic and structured Châteauneuf-du-Pape with a terrific combination of intense, pure dark-toned fruit and funkier notes of brettanomyces and volatile acidity. I'm quite confused how this vintage of this single-vineyard CdP of Morel is so bretty, funky and volatile since all the other Morel wines have been so pure, well-delineated and squeaky-clean. However, I'm not complaining. The wine is very balanced, enjoyably structure-driven and very characterful - the funky tones only add lovely complexity without overwhelming the rich Southern Rhône character of the wine. Lovely!
