  • This is an incredible wine ready to drink now! It's dark and brooding. On the nose, stewed red fruits, licorice and a touch of star anise and whole cloves. It's dry but still has refreshing fruit. High alcohol gives it good mouth feel. Very chewy and grippy tannins make this a delight. I'm stocking up.

  • It's bold, it's powerful, muscular, full bodied with vivid acidity and perfect balance, because it's the same time on the sweet side of dry wines. Kirsch liquor both in the smell and taste. Lovely. 16% ABV is not for weak souls. The smell is strong and well defined. Plum, black cherry, vanilla, cedar ( thanks for that!), blackberry. Did I mention kirsch?
Taste - first stage - it will bite your tongue with acidity and black pepper , second stage - it will kiss your tongue with ripe black fruits, third stage - it will glue your senses with a very long finish of acidity, soft tannins, vigorous spices, black fruits, mocca.

This wine goes very bravely on the thin line between kitsch and art.
The name of the vineyard comes from the name of a young, native winemaker from the Rhône Valley, who, after 7 years of working with Michel Chapoutier, decided to create his own wines in Chateauneuf du Pape. In 2008, Pierre-Henri found a fantastic terroir in the Pignan, where he bought 4 hectares of vineyard.

  • Pierre-Henri Morel's Lieu-Dit Pignan is a heavily-extracted, opaque crimson blend of 75% Grenache and 25% Mourvèdre that hits on all cylinders. Serially tasted over a three-hour period from a bottle that was Vinturi-decanted, it delivers an aromatic profile of blackberries, blueberries, Bing cherries, Provençal herbs and white pepper. Full-bodied and with impressive freshness for such a ripe wine, it delivers flavors mirroring the nose, flanking the fruit with a modicum of wood and an abundance of grippy tannins. Solid on the mid-palate and lengthy on the back end, this is an impressive Châteauneuf in every sense of the term. If you choose to pop the cork now, give it at least two hours of air. It would otherwise be prudent to give this gem at least two more years in the cellar. Drink 2024-2034.
