Beautiful merlot. Had the last bottle over 4 years ago and it is still going strong. BC Merlot is a great red for BC. This merlot is drinking beautifully now, but will easily go another 3-5 years. Wish I had another bottle to test my theory.

Probably the best Merlot I’ve had from Painted Rock. It’s got that funky Skaha nose - sweet sage meets saline and black cherry compote. Really well balanced. They dialed back the new oak on this vintage from 50% to 30%. That has let the ripe fruit sing rather than fight the vanilla bombast of previous years. 8 years on and it’s lithe, medium plus body has a great layered texture of rich fruit, silky tannins and a slight cleansing acidity. Went well with penne in a sundried tomato pesto sauce with chicken and nicoise olives. This will probably go another 4-5 years before peaking.

Still very young, can age at least another 5 years.
