  • So elegant, featuring black cherry, wood and a hint of tobacco. Solid mid-palate and a long, luscious finish. Drink now or hold - no hurry!!

  • Really good, Cabernet franc slightly fresher than my usual Cabernet Sauvignon. Really good taste, long in the mouth.

  • Dark fruits, cassis, old leather - fantastic. 30-45 second finish, deep purple color and must decant due to sediment

  • A beautiful wine gifted to me by a good friend who is also a cab franc fantatic. To try cab franc from a vineyard like To Kalon was a true treat.

I actually tried this blind as the bottle was sent to me wrapped in foil. I gave this a 2hr decant and that seemed to be about right. When pouring in to the glass, the transparency caught me off guard...it was like a heavy Pinot! Ruby red with a tinge of purple. The floral and potpourri aromatics leap from the glass and can be picked up a few feet away from the glass. Violets, sage, Black Forest Cake shavings, and ripe black cherries. On the palate, it sports some oak tannin, but the profile is crazy juicy and vibrant. Great acidity. Blackberries, scorched red and black fruits, cherries jubilee, and cedar round out the palate. The juicy acidity hangs around the finish for a good 30 seconds. This does a beautiful job of highlighting cab franc from the valley floor but also letting the vineyard shine through.

  • 1.5 hour decant. Started a bit big yet tight with herbal and green notes mixed with fruit. As it opened the fruit really started to shine. Not as big as a typical To-Kalon cab for say, but a softer more plush version. Very enjoyable because as it further evolved in the glass it would pick up notes of anise, chocolate covered cherries and lavender (not to mention great dark fruit notes) I still prefer the To-Kalon cab, but the cab franc is a nice change up from time to time.
