  • Bottled as "Bianco Vino da Tavola del Friuli". 13% alcohol.

Medium-deep golden yellow color that looks ever-so-slightly greener-toned than the vintage 1994 tasted alongside. Quite mature and rather sweet-toned nose with expressive aromas of roasted almonds, developed creaminess, some ripe yellow stone fruits, light smoky tones, a little bit of hay, a hint of gummi bear candies and a touch of toast with butter. Incredibly complex and attractive bouquet here. Contrasting the big, rich nose, the wine is medium-bodied, crisp and fresh on the palate with intense, somewhat developed and very mineral flavors of wet stones, creamy richness, chopped almonds, smoke, some sweet golden apples and apple purée, a little bit of chalky mineral bitterness, light honeycomb tones and a hint of quince. The wine is wonderfully textural and rich yet not at all heavy on the palate with balanced, almost racy acidity. The finish is crisp, mineral and very refreshing with lengthy and still very lively flavors of tangy green apples, apple peel bitterness, roasted almonds, some developed creamy character, a little bit of herbal grassy character, a hint of smoke and tertiary toasty character and a touch of beeswax.

A stunner of a wine and a real surprise: how on earth can a mere vino da tavola bianco not just survive 20 years, but actually come across as one of the most beautiful Italian whites I've tasted? The wine is obviously seen some age, but for a 20-years old fellow it is ridiculously youthful and full of life and vigor. The nose betrays the age much more than the racy and electric palate does. Even though the wine is drinking ridiculously well right now, I can see it being capable of developing from here. I guess these Borgo del Tiglio whites just age at geological timescale. Wow.

  • Absolutely fresh bouquet full of stony Riesling fruit underlined by the Sauvignon richness. The palate is a mid-weight mixture of creamy Friulano with some acidic spine coming from the other two grapes. The wine is harmonious and overall very fresh. Absolutely stunning for an entry-level wine with 20 years of ageing! One of the rare Italian whites that keeps for ages. We were positively surprised and simply loved this juice. Sadly, old vintages of Borgo del Tiglio are even harder to find than new ones. I would love to taste the Studio di Bianco from the same vintage.
