  • Bottled as "Bianco Vino da Tavola del Friuli". 13% alcohol.

Medium-deep golden yellow color, very slightly deeper than the vintage 1995 tasted alongside. Quite mature yet somewhat fresh nose with slightly restrained aromas of roasted almonds, developed creaminess, some ripe yellow stone fruits, light dusty tones, a little bit of clay, a hint of very ripe pear and a touch of dried apricots. The wine is light-to-medium-bodied, crisp and - astoundingly - very slightly prickly on the tongue with complex, developed flavors of creamy richness, sweet smoky tones, chalky bitterness, some wet stones, a little bit of wizened stone fruits, light flinty tones, a hint of apple peel bitterness and a touch of ripe pear. The wine is very high in acidity, which lends great freshness and intensity to the wine. The finish is crisp, focused and mineral on the palate with quite long flavors of chalky minerality, tart lemony citrus fruits, some hay, a little bit of smoke, light lemon marmalade tones and a hint of creaminess.

An incredibly fresh, focused and vibrant white from Friuli that certainly comes across as developed, but never as much as I'd expect for an Italian white at +20 years of age. The wine is built more like a Rheingau Riesling than like your typical Friuli white and the freshness and intensity here is just incredible. Overall the wine comes more youthful, but also slightly less complex and less substantial than the vintage 1995 that was tasted alongside. This is certainly a beautiful wine that is not only beautifully aged, but also capable of developing a lot further from here. Astounding.
