Splash decant and it was good to go though it continued to fan out over the next hour. Very good showing and not having tasted it since 2017, age is (no real surprise) its friend. Fresh, with vg depth and breadth. VG sense of place, complex, long, etc. Loved the elegance and it was gone at no time as everyone at the table realized just how beautiful and tasty it was. 13,5% abv. I'll drink my final one sometime in the next decade. #1056/1333. highly recommended
Il Palazzone with Laura Gray (Zoom!): Laura describes this as a fairytale vintage, but says it didn't seem like it at the time. Again it's a vintage that's heavily influenced by the choices of the winemaker.
Some creaminess and leather on the nose. Really dark, still quite present tannins. Charred meat. 14.6% alcohol is evident on the nose. Quite rich, but still pretty juicy. Prefer the elegance of the non-Riserva wines...

Opened 10 hours ago - best Brunello I’ve had a joy to enjoy. Agree with an earlier comment about this being an experience... chocolate and dark fruit on the nose followed by smooth (so smooth) flavors of dark fruit leather and mouth drying tannins. Love. This. Wine. Very nice.

My second time with this, the first was two months ago while visiting the estate; I was in love then, and again tonight. This is a special wine, and if you're looking for an experience, i.e. not just something to drink, this should be on your short list. Profoundly aromatic, with a deep, beautiful sense of place. The purity resonates on the nose, and gracefully follows through to the medium>medium+ bodied palate. This is just a babe now, so you'd do well to take care of it. If you're lucky enough to have a few, and haven't tasted it yet, by all means, open one up, this will light up your day/night. The upper echelons of grape and place, in my glass. Now or in the next 20 years. highly recommended+
From coravin, with 30 minutes of air before tasting.
Visit to Il Palazzone in Montalcino (Montalcino, Italy): 2,100 bottles produced. The star of the line up from my perspective. Light chambord and a smokey quality emanate from the glass after swirling. Sweet dark cherry flavors dominate, sandelwood and bay leaves followed by crushed rose petals. Very long finish. Fine rounded yet firm tannins make this drinkable now with a decant.
