  • Pear aromas with citrus, supported with faint spice and floral traces. Good length with a very bright finish.

  • Golden. Like the last bottle a slight oxidative whiff that may have just been paranoia given opening for other people! This developed beautifully in the glass to deliver a chiselled chardonnay replete with green and citrus fruit, a pleasing roundness and mouthfeel, but always staying on the side of precision. A delicate balacing act whose tension was appreciated by all. Lovely.

  • A greeny gold. At first I thought I detected a whiff of oxidisation in the glass that had me worried but it disappeared quickly leaving behind a nose of pure apple that was also quite floral. On the palate more green fruit, with a clear stoney and steely centre - this is a strict wine still, very structured and precise. Barely a trace of richness here, none of the that creamy smokiness that I have found - and enjoyed - in the 2018 village from F-G. This is not to be confused with the wine being thin - far from it, it is delicious and multi-textured, but also serious, with an austerity about it somehow. Very good indeed.

  • Back again with this wonderful wine. A steely but finessed quality on the nose, with excellent if restrained lift. Flavours on the palate of the characteristic green banana, lychees and Norwegian honeysuckle.

But is the texture of this wine that is its winning quality. We can find Norwegian honeysuckle anywhere (although Norway would be the obvious place to look). Both in terms of its depth and its structure, this wine is close to being a grand cru.
