The thing is, I'm never sure exactly when to drink these Bucklins. At age 6, this is still somewhat burly and acid driven, which is great, and what I want from this wine. I'm curious, though, about what it will morph into as time goes on.
This is a wonderful wine - one of the best field blends I’ve had, really. There’s an impression of wild raspberries and boysenberries on the front end, backed by a layer of mildly peppery spice, and presented in a medium-bodied frame. The tannins are mostly resolved and the finish is clean and just a touch sweet. This was ready to go with minimal air.
This is only my second or third Bucklin and I’m becoming a big fan.

In contrast to the older wines we had this evening, this was very vibrant and obviously young with a deep purple staining hue. Wonderfully textured and bright and fruity without being cloying or overdone in any respect. Spicy, peppery, black fruit and a long smooth finish. I just purchased this yesterday which is quite unsual for me to drink so soon but I wanted to see if this is as good as the 2012 I had at the vineyard with Will Bucklin a couple years ago...and it was. Quite worth seeking out to taste a balanced, well made Zin/field blend (Will says there are at least 23 grape varieties in this vineyard) from the vineyard also used by Ravenswood for their Old Hill Ranch bottling.

A nose of some dark fruit and spice, dark garnet in color. A medium to full bodied Zn, with blackberry, black cherry, red licorice and spice on finish. An easy drinking red. www.winelx.com
