  • When we first saw this wine at Kroger, think it was the the 2010 release, we said "heck it is only 3 bucks, how can we loose"? That one tasted a bit like diesel and banana but also had redeeming qualities. This 2015 is really pretty good. It was always a great idea to add Merlot to the Bonarda. The Bonarda is gamey, rustic and savory, while the Merlot is sophisticated and smooth. They have been working on this for a while, and this 2015 is an absolutely incredible $4 wine. The color is purple but not all that opaque. The nose smells like Bonarda. The palate is way more creamy and rich than expected. Tons of blueberry and cherry. Minerals and graphite. Balanced. Fresh crushed blueberry swimming in tannins on the finish.
