  • Restaurant purchase. Disgorged 18/02/2016, and the back label read "Lot 12 Solex Mi" so I believe this is from the 2012 vintage... front label was in pretty rough shape so no indication of how much time this spent on the lees.
But wow, this was firing on all cylinders. Perfectly developed, melange of autolytic notes and mature chardonnay character. Sweet spot of a champagne that's both a crowd pleaser and quite sophisticated.

  • It shows complex minerality and preserved lemon-like taste. I thought it’s like Chablis with bubbles in a way. It seems to be in a good drinking window.

  • complex, very long, tasted a lot like an excellent white wine, fun to drink, enjoyed it a lot

  • Strong whiff of TCA on the cork set me off, but at least initially it seems the wine might be sound. There is a touch of chlorine on the nose but the palate is so fatty rich in a good way that it seems possibly clean. Lots of secondary funky farmhouse butter notes and some oak. So much richer than any earlier vintage of this wine! Blind I might have guessed Les Roises. Delicious, and may have arrived at the peak for my preferences.
Curiously I also got a whiff of TCA from the cork of my last bottle as well, and that bottle was fairly mute... but perhaps these corks are just a bit moldy.

  • Hint of TCA from the cork, and the wine was virtually mute. Hoping for the best but fearing the worst, I put the bottle back into the refrigerator.
To my relief, on day 2 the clouds briefly part and this shows gentle farmhouse butter and pastry with tart fresh meyer lemon and a subtle developing leesy note. It's surprisingly unevolved in contrast with a recent 2012 Les Roises. Delicious but youthful. Unfortunately, about 15 minutes later this returned to its previous mute expression, and never came back over several days. The utter silence of the aromatics led me to conclude that this was likely indeed slightly corked.
