The Holidays With Wine (Home is where the cellar is): Have had success with Le Chiuse in the past but maybe this is a victim of a lesser vintage. It seemed like it was smoking on open, but it closed up soon after. I wouldn’t call it austere but it was a bit dull. Picked up notes of mint, anise, forest floor,

Such a pretty wine. Immediately after opening, one gets lovely wafts of ripe strawberries, old tobacco, cracked walnuts, thyme-y resin, and roses. Almost Barolo like but not quite. On a taste, mellow but flavorful notes of walnuts, dried cherries, a fruit leather of sorts, pu’erh tea and molasses. I think they’re available for drinking now, with maybe another year of upside where it’ll hold for another 5-7 years. Quite lovely, and paired nicely with some homemade thin crust pizzas.

Medium-deep reddish garnet in color. Forward, attractive & fragrant nose of youthful, ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blueberries & plums with overtones of floral notes of violets, earthy/dusty, sandalwood, leather, dried herbs, anise, spices, minerals & a slight hint of tar. Medium-full bodied with a good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, youthful, ripe fruit flavors of sour cherries, blueberries & red plums with earthiness, spices, herbs, cocoa & minerals. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & airing but should develop & benefit from additional aging.

Tre Bicchieri (San Francisco): Richer than the Rosso. Structured. Some oak influence. A bit nonaromatic just now - maybe needs air or time in bottle?

Benvenuto Brunello - 2011 and Riserva 2010 Seminar and guided Tasting (Drake Hotel - Chicago IL): Sit down tasting. Subtlety floral start with red berry aromas. Red berry and savory spice flavors. Probably the most elegant of the 2011s in the sit-down tasting, but also slightly short. Nicely balanced for medium term enjoyment.
All the property can produce Brunello, with largest clusters going into the Rosso, smallest clusters into Riserva when produced.
