Tasted next to the 2013, 2016, and 2018. This was by far the most backwards of the wines with slightly simpler notes of raspberries, cherries, and flowers. Good acidity with red berries, red cherries, and more floral notes on the palate. Good finish. Today this was a bit behind the others, but still very enjoyable.

A lovely wine. Balanced, complex and challenging (in a good way). In its drinking window but plenty of time left. So much better than any other natural wine I’ve had.
Nose: on first uncorking what first hit you was the smell of the barnyard, however that soon disappeared. Then it’s earth, mulch and red fruits.
Palate. So much going on. For a medium bodied wine the body is good and then the balance between, fruit, tannin and acidity is lovely. Length is decent too. In terms of descriptors, red fruits of every hue, along with some yellow plum. Then there’s the earthy element which joins with the acidity to create a lovely Earl Grey tea perfume and astringency that really holds it together.

Robert Rolls Burgundy lunch 2023 (St John): Magnum. This seemed almost aggressively rustic amongst all the Pinot wines, but certainly made for a nice change of pace (and was fantastic with the trotter pie). Rather gamey and evolved, Bloody Mary-ish, medium-bodied yet quite intense.

Minerals, structured in a balanced way, intense but not broad shouldered. Probably better in 5 years.

From magnum. No formal notes, but this was amazing! Clearly the best showing of the 2014 so far.
