Dundee Hills, Oregon, 2013 Domaine Serene Pinot Noir Gold Eagle Vineyard, $68. In vertical of 2011-2014 and 2004 Domaine Serene wines. Fifth place. Lightest of the group; light ruby, rim variation (13.1 alc.); light red fruit, earthy, anise, redwood nose; low acids, tannins; light-mid fruit; decent flavor; a bit short on the finish. 16 UC Davis scale, 90 other scales.

Lighter red in color. Intense bouquet of baking spice, cherry, floral. Hint of sandlewood. Short smooth flavor that isn’t lasting but pleasant. Nicely balanced and subtle. Cherry, raspberry, eucalyptus. Likely best to drink on its own.

Everything here is quite good--bouquet, taste, balance--but it's very muted. It's like a musical concert at low volume. You need to really focus on it, and any external noise (or flavor in this case) could overwhelm it. I like more oomph in my wines, particularly those with this kind of pedigree. I'd pair it with mild cheese or lightly seasoned nuts and take it slow. Air didn't change it much.

violets, perfume, menthol, sour red cherry, interesting spicebox notes -- almost some za'atar or other middle eastern spices. well balanced on the palate. med(+) finish.
