Dinner at Picasso (Las Vegas, NV): Ordered at an elegant restaurant from their Wine Spectator Grand Award-winning list, this pristinely cellared Premier Cru Burgundy did not disappoint. Uncorked, poured and serially tasted over 2-3 hours, it unfurls an intense aromatic profile of red plums, Bing cherries, cinnamon, nutmeg, smoke, leather, violets and black tea. Medium-bodied, freshly acidic and without any heat from its 13% alcohol, it delivers flavors mirroring the nose and is layered on the mid-palate. At this point the medium-weight tannins are polished in texture and the oak has nicely integrated. Long and supple on the finish, this Volnay has fleshed out beautifully. Give it an hour of air if you choose to pop the cork at this stage. Comparably cellared bottles should provide pleasure for another decade or more. Drink now-2033.

Meursault Masterclass (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): Perfumed with slight chocolate notes, sweet spice and almost plummy fruit accompanying cherry and black tea elements. Pretty nose! Still a puppy on the palate with black tea and muted cherry and plum notes hand in hand with firm and drying tannins. Hmm
