  • A Spanish wine and tapas evening (Restaurante Meson Galicia, Hamburg): Two Magnums, same taste: fresh, red cassis, very elegant, still slightly muted, opens up a bit, good pairing with tapas, long finish, needs more time, lets say 5+ years, especially from MG, *(**+- ?), aroung 89- 90+ potential

  • First bottle of the youngest vintage, very spicy nose, some red fruit, starting with some grainy tannin, not that persistent as former vintages of this wine, more elegant but lacking some power and intensity, as I normally do like the 4 Kilos, a big question mark hangs over this vintage, is it cause pressed for the first time out of 100% callet?, ending quite long and tasty, no idea how this will age, hopefully I will wait 3 years until the next try, *(*-**+?), 86- 90(+)?

  • The wine was medium ruby in colour and offered a slightly artificial nose of red fruit, cherry, herbs, floral notes, spices, liquorice and earth. On the palate the wine showed sweet, candy-like mixed berry flavours (mainly red), cherry, cola, herbs, spices, liquorice and earth, with medium-level acidity, smooth, well-integrated, medium-level tannin and very good length. The fruit-bomby, medium- to full-bodied wine had good fruit and concentration, but did not show much structure and I am concerned if it will age well. This is the first 4 Kilos made from 100% Callet (2013 and 2012 included 10% Manto Negro, earlier vintages also included international varietals) and while the 2013 still is my favourite 4 Kilos, based on this first peek the 2014 does not win me over.
