  • Appearance: medium garnet.
Nose: medium plus intensity; aromas of five spices, dried cranberry, vanilla, farmyard, earthy, dried plum, forest floor, roasted meat, cloves, dried herbs, licorice. It’s fully developed.
Palate: dry, high acidity, medium plus tannins but completely dissolved, medium plus alcohol, high alcohol, medium plus body, pronounced flavour intensity, still very fruity and lively on the palate with dried plum, red date and black tea. The finish is long.
Overall, it’s an outstanding wine. Drink at its peak!
Got this bottle from Dan’s with similar price as the young vintage. I’m prepared to embrace a passed wine but this is really a surprise and delight. The cork has broken into pieces but the ullage is perfect. Mesmerisingly perfumed and extremely complex on the nose, beautiful and charming. It demonstrates that you don’t have to pay a few dollars to enjoy the best form of Aussie Shiraz, which can age gracefully for 30 yrs. Great acidity holds the wine extremely well. The complexity on the palate is just a little shy comparing to the top names (such as 1994 Grange I had) however I’d rather buy 8 bottles of this with the same cost. The finish is lingering and satisfying. I’m actually flying out of Australia next Wed. Nothing is better than this bottle as my farewell wine to my second home country after 8 yrs stay! And wine like this gives me all the reason to come back again!

  • Opened this as part of the '12 NYE Blind Wine quiz (5/10/15/20/25 yr olds)...remarkably fresh and vibrant, with most of the tannins fully integrated. Lovely shiraz, what we're all hoping for in the monsters from Oz. Even better the next night, surprisingly...probably has 10--15 yrs of life ahead, but appears fully mature and ready now.

  • The color is starting to go on this bad boy. This wine has really aged gracefully. All of the primary fruit is gone but in its place and really pretty leather and spice components.

  • Violet to purple in the glass, this bottle had a crumbly cork. While still a very good wine, the cork told the story as it was not up to the great level of previous bottles of the 1992 - an unfortunate occurence as this was my last bottle. Full bodied, the wine did display notes of blackberries, blueberries, dark chocolate and raisins. The finish was long. 50+12+12+8+8 = 90

  • Dinner with Mom at Cypress in Charleston. Dark crimson to purple in color showing little sign of it's age. Throws lots of fine sediment. The nose on this wine just explodes with super-ripe fruit, primarily dark berries. In the mouth, the wine has a very glyceral feel that the best Aussies always have. A long finish ends a wonderful experience. The food at Cypress was superb. 50+13+13+9+9 = 94.
