  • Seemingly dark and brooding, yet at only 13% still exceptionally fresh and drinkable. From a quality varietal that’s not all that common in these parts (but probably should be!), this wine provided a wealth of fruit, herbs and spice on both the nose and palate. Though typically known for darker fruit, it came across as a mix of both red and dark currants, cherries, and plum. The abundant savoury notes quickly took over, however, showcasing plenty of herbs, black pepper, pine forest, and hints of meat. The finish was all earthiness. Tannins and acidity were both quite prevalent – taming them a bit would greatly improve the mouthfeel – but overall the structure was what you would expect. The wine displayed a decent amount of complexity, particularly for the price point, and a very good representation of the varietal/place. Certainly great QPR for $22 and one worth trying out.
